CREATE AN EVENT

“One of the most successful community building events we’ve had. Jew, Catholic, Russian, Guatamalen, went forth celebrating our shared experience.”
--Marie O’Connor, Pastoral Care Coordinator, Francis of Assisi Community

Songwriting Works™ events celebrate songs composed by communities in regular workshop programs or in one-time special songwriting sessions focused on a particular theme. While the Songwriting Works workshop process draws out individual’s creativity and honors their voices in the midst of composing a song, special events are the time when these new original songs are brought forward into the larger community. It's always a cause for celebration!

Songwriting Works™ workshops can be designed to:

  • Give tribute • Leave a legacy • Explore group identity • Build rapport between diverse groups • Raise community issues • Facilitate discussion • Give voice to a community, time, or place

Examples of concert and community recital events include:

  • Synagogue dedication – in which elders sang original Psalms Songs
  • Gala Tribute – in which elders performed songs honoring retiring executive director for 600 guests.
  • Gratitude Concert – in which inner city middle school students performed songs of thanks for
elders and staff with whom they had volunteered in a service project at a residential care home.

In addition, Judith-Kate Friedman and associates produce intergenerational and creative aging public awareness events and design unique interactive music programs for families, health and educational institutions, community agencies and the business community. Partial proceeds from these special events benefit on-going programs of Songwriting Works.
